Last week on the podcast, we talked to Phoebe Bridgers about her witchcraft. Listen to the full interview on Spotify if you haven’t already, and read on for a newsletter exclusive scripting spell from Phoebe.

I think my favorite spell ever is scripting. It can feel very vision board-y and corny when I say it. But I swear to you, if you just let that stuff go, it is my favorite thing ever. It helps me ground myself.

Instead of writing a list of the things you want, scripting is when you manifest those things you want by writing as if they’ve already happened. Sometimes I think I’ll be a completely different person when I get that thing that I want. Scripting makes it so that you feel like yourself, in your body — it's a slight change to your normal life.

For example, if you're a musician and you want to play a show in Japan, write a script about the way that you hope to feel in Japan. “I felt very overwhelmed when I was in Japan and I had always wanted to go.” But write what you want for yourself. “I called my mom so I wouldn't miss home too much. But then I went to this museum and then I just took a walk and I got a coffee.” Actually feel in your body what you want.

Or if you want to confront somebody, it's a therapeutic thing to have the conversation beforehand. Write a diary entry of what you’d love to say as if it's happened. Like, “I was really proud of myself for saying this. I choked up when they said this back to me.”

By doing a slight manifestation, scripting gets me away from feeling like I’ll be a totally evolved person when I get what I want, and it gets me closer to making and letting it happen. I love it. Get cozy and script.
